In Niassa Province, Mozambique, where fields stretch toward the horizon with mountains in the distance, Carril Muhate is dedicated to her work at Green Resources. Surrounded by the sound of machinery and the aroma of freshly harvested crops, Carril’s commitment to her role is evident. Her journey, which began two years ago, illustrates the possibilities that arise when opportunity meets hard work.
“I started here as a vine selector,” Carril recalls, reflecting on her early days at Green Resources. Her promotion to machine operator showcases her perseverance and the trust the company has placed in her. “Now, I operate this machine, and I feel proud. I enjoy working here,” she adds, a smile appearing as she looks at the machinery she commands.
Green Resources, focused on agricultural processing, has become a vital part of the local economy, offering stable employment and growth opportunities for its workers. For Carril, the chance to work with modern equipment has transformed her life outside of work. “With the money I earned here, I managed to buy my own motorbike,” she shares, highlighting how her job has brought her financial independence.
Carril’s daily responsibilities revolve around operating heavy machinery used in processing and packaging agricultural products. From loading vines into the press to ensuring the machines run smoothly throughout the production process, her role is crucial to the company’s operations.
“I load the presses, leave the materials to dry, and pass them to my colleagues for sorting,” she explains.
Her ability to handle the technical aspects of the job demonstrates her growth from a newcomer to an experienced operator.
The workday at Green Resources is long yet rewarding, with Carril and her colleagues working nine-hour shifts, starting at 7:00 a.m. “We collaborate well,” she says, appreciating the teamwork and problem-solving dynamics within the group.
“If there are any issues, we can always sort them out with our bosses. There’s no problem that can’t be fixed.”
Despite her success, Carril has broader ambitions—not just for herself but for the company and her community. “I’d like to see more women working here,” she expresses, her voice filled with hope. “We already have seven women in the factory, but I want to see more promoted to higher positions. There’s so much potential here.” Her desire to foster a more inclusive workplace reflects her commitment to both personal and community advancement.
Carril’s optimism extends to her future aspirations. “In five years, I want to keep growing,” she says, her eyes lighting up at the thought of continued advancement within the company. “I love operating this machine, and I know there are even more opportunities ahead.” Her journey, from vine selector to machine operator, is far from over. She envisions a future where she continues to contribute to the company’s success while advocating for greater inclusivity and development.
Green Resources, with its blend of agricultural tradition and modern processing techniques, has equipped Carril with the tools to improve not just her livelihood but also the lives of those around her. As she steps back into the hum of the factory, Carril’s pride in her work and her community is clear.
